Okay, so maybe it was one too many Strawberry Daiquiris on the beach at sunset… or maybe just way too many
Cheeseburgers in Paradise. No excuses, Professor beach got FAT! 225 lbs FAT. After years of exploring and enjoying beaches around the world it just wasn't fun anymore. No more fun because when I got to the beach I was ashamed to take off my shirt. Ever feel that way?

My last beach exploring trip to Florida really did it. I just sat in a beach chair under an umbrella. Didn't even want to swim or walk on the beach because I was just too uncomfortable in my skin. Just too much of me “in my skin”. Fast forward two months and I'm down to 205 lbs and on my way to a fit and healthy lifestyle. Join me on my pursuit of health and once again walking the beach with my shirt off. Watch my progress and see how I did it here.

St. John, part of the cluster known as the U.S. Virgin islands is well known for its beautiful white sand beaches and crystal clear waters. The island has a relatively small population of just under five thousand of the most friendliest people.

Cruz Bay, accessible by a quick twenty minute ferry ride from St.Thomas is where you will find the majority of the islands bars, restaurants and resorts. You’ll find Coral Bay, on the east side where there will be plenty of unique establishments, villas and beautiful views of the neighboring Totola of the British Virgin Islands.

Travelers enjoy the U.S.V.I for it’s villas rentals, which provide privacy and an “at home” feel that you won’t find when you stay at larger resorts and hotels. You may even be familiar with Into the Mystic which was featured on HGTV’s House Hunters International. Into the Mystic, located in the hills above Coral Bay is a spectacular villa suitable for two couples or a family of four. The out of season rates are relatively reasonable, particularly if you are traveling with a group. There is also Caneel Bay, designed by Laurance Rockefeller – which sites on just under two hundred acres of land and known for its low rise cottages. Finally, when it comes to renting a villa on St.John’s island – the Wimco group is pretty much known as the “go to” source for all your needs. Between these three suggestions – you are guaranteed to find something that fits your budget and personal expectations.

There are no shortages of great restaurants and bistros on the island. La Plancha Del Mar, established in the early part of 2009. They are popular for their Mediterranean and Caribbean style foods as well as ample parking, which is truly a rare find on the island! Another new eatery on the island is St. John Waterfront Bistro, which overlooks the Cruz Bay wharf. The Caribbean French blend menu is very popular with diners. The entrees at La Plancha del Mar start at an affordable $24 and $29 at St John Waterfront Bistro.

If you are planning a getaway this year, do not deny yourself the opportunity to get to know St. John of the U.S. Virgin Islands. This destination offers the best in food, fun and play – coupled with the privacy of it’s villas. St. John is the perfect getaway for Generation Y.

It’s easy to get to the Visitor Center. Just follow the road to the Post Office; make another left and continue straight ahead until you arrive at a playground. The Visitor Center is located next to the playground. Usually there is friendly Park Ranger waiting to answer your questions.

The visitor center has a great display that offers information on the underwater and ecological community, as well as information on the history and culture of the island. In addition, there is also a video display and touch screen that answers many of your questions and concerns about what you will encounter on your visit to Virgin Islands National Park.

If you are going to explore, the visitor center has a topographical map that shows you a visual perspective of the terrain and lay of the island. For more info about the visitor center, just click on the link. http://www.nps.gov/archive/viis/VIIS/page7.html
